Why the UK foreign office can not admit the truth over the negotiations leading to the release of British hostage Peter Moore

Despite the official denials of involvement in the kidnapping of British Hostage, Peter Moore, leading Iraqi politician Ayad Jamal Aldin reveals the truth about the negotiations that took place and Tehran's growing power within Iraq.

"Let us not delude ourselves that the negotiations that brought about his release bode well for the development of a peaceful Middle-East. A sordid deal has been done, and it should worry us all". Mr. Jamal Aldin tells a leading European newspaper.

Iran was behind Peter Moore's kidnapping

A WEALTH of evidence exists showing that Iran was behind the kidnap of Peter Moore and the murder of three of his bodyguards, says an Iraqi MP.

Secular cleric Ayad Jamal Aldin, who has survived six assassination attempts, claimed Iran’s Revolutionary Guard was behind the kidnap of the computer specialist and his British colleagues, three of whom are known to have been killed.

Mr Aldin, leader of the Ahrar political party, was asked by the Sunday Express to use his influence to demand Mr Moore’s release.

Speaking from Baghdad last night, he said: “As a result of the publicity generated from the revelations made to the Sunday Express regarding the Iranian involvement in his kidnap, fresh appeals were launched by me and Peter Moore’s family. As a result he has now been released.

“A wealth of evidence points to the involvement of Iran. Even the Iraqi ministers say the operation to kidnap him was beyond the ability of Iraqi militias.

“But behind the Iraqi government’s rhetoric that the release was negotiated in Iraq, there is a reality of increasing Iranian influence.

“The prime minister Mr Maliki’s Dawa party is a Shia party, created in Iran. Its senior members will never forget the loyalty they owe that state. The prime minister cannot take a stand against Iran because his party has been manufactured by the Iranians and financed by Tehran. They are linked intellectually, religiously and ideologically.

“We have a neighbour that supplies militias, violent factions and terrorism with weapons and logistical support not just with impunity, but with the tacit support of many in the Iraqi government.”

Mr Moore, 36, was snatched at the Iraqi finance ministry in 2007 while working on a computer system which, it is thought, would have allowed money to be tracked to the accounts of militants in Iran.

The remains of bodyguards Jason Swindlehurst, 38, from Skelmersdale, Lancs, and Jason Creswell, 39, from Glasgow, were handed over to the British Embassy in Baghdad last June and in September the body of Alec MacLachlan, 30, was handed over.

The fourth man, Alan McMenemy, is presumed dead and his family have asked for his body to be sent back.

Since returning to Britain on New Year’s Day, Mr Moore has been with his step parents Fran and Pauline Sweeney of Lincoln.

His natural mother Avril Sweeney, 54, from Blackpool, and natural father Graeme Moore, 60, from Wigton, Leicestershire, hope to see him soon.

About Ayad Jamal Aldin:

Ayad Jamal Aldin is a Shia cleric, best known for his consistent campaigning for a new, secular Iraq. He first rose to prominence at the Nasiriyah conference in March 2003, shortly before the fall of Saddam, where he called for a state free of religion, the turban and other theological symbols. In 2005, he was elected as one of the 25 MPs on the Iraqi National List, but withdrew in 2009 after becoming disenchanted with Iyad Allawi's overtures to Iran. He wants complete independence from Iranian interference in Iraq. He now leads the Ahrar party for the 2010 election to the Council of Representatives, to clean up corruption and create a strong, secure and liberated Iraq for the future.
